Spectro Optics: Supply Capability for 550 mm Large Precision Square Windows

October 19, 2026

Spectro Optics delivers high-performance large-format precision optical windows fabricated from Corning HPFS® 7980 0F synthetic fused silica, serving high-power laser, aerospace, metrology and vacuum optical systems.

We are capable of manufacturing square windows with a diagonal dimension of nearly 550 mm. This large monolithic fused silica blank requires rigorous raw material screening, large-aperture figuring and advanced metrology to guarantee wavefront fidelity across the functional clear aperture.

Key Optical & Mechanical Specifications

  • Substrate: Corning HPFS® 7980 0F fused silica
  • Geometry: Square, diagonal ~550 mm
  • Surface Figure: PV < λ/4 over 95% of clear aperture (CA)
  • Surface Quality: Scratch-Dig (S-D) 40-20
  • Parallelism: 30 arcsec
  • Corners: CNC-machined corners, controlled edge profile, minimised edge chipping and stress concentration

Corning 7980 0F features ultra-low thermal expansion, exceptional refractive index homogeneity, low birefringence and broadband transmission from deep UV to near infrared. It is the material of choice for large-aperture high-energy laser and precision optical systems. Our CNC corner machining delivers precise corner geometry, consistent edge finish and controlled corner stress, which is critical for mechanical mounting, assembly and eliminating edge-origin scattering or fracture risk.

Our in-house metrology suite includes a 480 mm aperture interferometer for wavefront characterization. For these near-550 mm diagonal windows, we deploy sub-aperture stitching interferometry to fully qualify the full-aperture surface figure, ensuring reliable PV verification for the 95% clear aperture requirement.

Spectro Optics maintains full in-house workflow: blank sourcing, CNC shaping, edge profiling, surface polishing, large-aperture interferometric testing and final inspection. Every component is inspected to validate wavefront, scratch-dig, parallelism and edge quality before shipment. Material certification and formal inspection reports are supplied with each delivered window.
